The railway between Redhill and Tonbridge will reopen on Monday 15 April after Network Rail's engineers completed emergency landslip repairs at Bough Beech, near Edenbridge in Kent.
Over the last two weeks, engineers have installed 91 steel piles and strengthened the railway embankment over a 100 metre section, with soil nails (steel rods) underpinning the railway, after the embankment had become saturated and weakened as a result of the impact of recent heavy rain.
Network Rail have worked around the clock, with their contractors, over the past two weeks to repair this landslip, on what’s been quite a complex site. They have still got some work to do on site, including further strengthening works, but this won't affect their ability to run trains along the line. They are very grateful to their passengers, freight customers, stakeholders and lineside neighbours for their patience while they’ve carried out this work.
While they recognise the past number of weeks have been incredibly disruptive for customers, they are confident the work they've done at Bough Beech will leave this line in a much better and more reliable condition for the future.
As the line reopens, customers are advised to check with Southern for the latest journey information, and plan their journey before setting off, here.
