Local News Announcement - Surrey County Council Re-Launches 'Solar Together' scheme -
Surrey County Council has recently re-launched its solar panel group-buying scheme 'Solar Together' to support residents in investing in local renewable energy generation, reducing carbon emissions, and saving on energy bills. As part of the scheme, Surrey residents are invited to register their interest in purchasing solar PV systems, with the option of battery storage and EV charge points.
The scheme is also open to residents who already have existing solar PV systems and are interested in retrofitting battery storage to increase their independence from the grid supply. Registering for the scheme is free, and there is no obligation to proceed with an installation.
Solar Together has been successfully running across the UK for six years, delivering over 17,000 installations and preventing over 350,000 tonnes of lifetime carbon emissions. Surrey County Council sees a significant potential to reduce carbon emissions from homes in Surrey and has already received over 100 registrations of interest from residents.
The process works as follows:
- Householders can register online to join the group, free of charge and without any obligation.
- Pre-approved UK solar PV suppliers participate in a reverse auction, offering competitive pricing due to the volume and geographic concentration of installations.
- After the auction, registered households will receive a personalized recommendation based on the information they provided during registration.
- If they choose to accept the recommendation, the details of their installation will be confirmed through a technical survey. A date can then be set for the installation of their solar PV system.
- Telephone and email helpdesks are available throughout the process, and information sessions are provided to ensure households can make informed decisions in a safe and hassle-free environment.
