I am delighted that, after campaigning hard since 2005 for a new critical care hospital to serve residents in Banstead and the north of the Reigate constituency, as well as the population of Epsom and Ewell, the Government has committed to delivering a new Specialist and Emergency Care Hospital in Sutton and redevelopment of Epsom and St Helier sites.
This is part of the £20 billion investment in building new hospitals across the country and work in our area will now proceed towards construction and delivery by 2030.
This is fantastic news for residents, particularly as the new hospital will be delivered in tandem with redevelopment of the Epsom and St Helier sites whose dilapidated buildings will finally receive much needed improvements.
Having campaigned for nearly 20 years on this issue, the Government’s green light for a new critical care hospital in Sutton is one of the most positive headlines during my time as the area’s MP.
I look forward to my constituents being served by next generation hospital facilities, alongside the world-renowned Royal Marsden Specialist Cancer care hospital, by the end of the decade. This development secures the best in hospital treatment for my constituents as well as residents locally. This is a red-letter day for Banstead, Sutton and beyond.
