Crispin Blunt MP welcomes a cash injection of £2,108 for the Gatton Trust to improve visitor access to the restored Japanese Garden at Reigate’s Gatton Park.
Much of the funding, raised thanks to players of People’s Postcode Lottery, will be spent on pathway and step improvement works, helping make the garden, with its ponds, thatched tea house, stone lanterns, and oriental bridge, more access friendly.
The money comes from Postcode Local Trust – a grant-giving trust awarding funds raised by Postcode Lottery players – and will also be used to fund the tea house roof’s restoration and planting throughout the garden.
Mr. Blunt commented: “Well done to the Gatton Trust in securing this funding for its Japanese Garden project. This Eastern-influenced garden at Gatton is an impressive hidden gem. I’m particularly pleased that by making accessibility improvements, thanks to the funds from the Postcode Local Trust, even more visitors will soon be able to take in and enjoy its beauty.”
Katherine Sellar, Community Programmes Advisor at People’s Postcode Lottery added: “It’s not just players that win with People’s Postcode Lottery – charities do too. Gardens and designed landscapes play an important role in our heritage, so it’s great that this local charity has received funding for its garden accessibility work, meaning more people will be able to explore the Japanese Garden at Gatton Park.”
The next opportunity for local charities and good causes to apply for funding will be in August 2020. Funding is available through three trusts, with each supporting projects focused on different themes.
