Crispin Blunt supports new local facility for young people with learning difficulties

Crispin Blunt MP will be speaking in Redhill on Friday 22 July at the official opening of a new community facility being launched by the charity Active Prospects, in partnership with Surrey County Council, which will provide ‘short break’ support and supported ‘transition’ housing to young people with learning disabilities.

Active Prospects is a charity that has been operating in Surrey for over twenty years providing help to over three hundred young people and adults with learning disabilities, autism, Asperger’s Syndrome mental health needs and acquired brain injuries.

Crispin Blunt said:

“I share the passion of Active Prospects for helping people with learning disabilities to live as independently as possible in society. The short-break service will help young service users between the ages of 18-30, allowing their carers to take a break from support without compromising the quality of support they provide. During the break the young people can experience a wide range of activities both provided by Active Communities and within the community at large. Some of the young people are offered short break support in their family home.

“Additionally the new facility will provide much needed supported housing for users by preparing them for independent living in the community. I am delighted to be able to support this great local social care initiative which is a great example how partnership working can work between a charity and Surrey County Council.”
