Update 15th October 2018: Following pressure from the community and my intervention to the Immigration Minister, I am delighted to share that the Home Office has taken the decision to grant my constituent, Dr Awai Leave to Remain.This is fantastic news both for her and East Surrey Hospital.

As a well respected Doctor at East Surrey Hospital and a loved member of our community, there has been considerable interest in the case of my constituent, Dr Shashi Awai.

Whilst I am unable to elaborate on specific details as I am sure residents will understand, I can share that I have been actively assisting Dr Awai since August 2017 when she first sought my intervention and I have corresponded with the Home Office on five separate occasions.

Earlier this month, in liaison with Dr Awai and her legal team, I wrote to the Rt Hon Caroline Nokes MP, Minister of State for Immigration in support of her case, urging the Minister to personally intervene and ensure Dr Awai’s case gets the attention and resolution it deserves.

In the meantime both myself and my team will be closely working with Dr Awai, supporting her and her fiancé. If any residents have anything in support of Dr Awai’s case they’d like to bring to my attention, please do let me know by e-mail to: [email protected]
